Expatriate businesspeople living in Europe have expressed keen interest to invest in Bangladesh's pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, processed food, education, technology and services sector and human resources development.

The interest was shown when a 26-member delegation of Europe-Bangladesh Federation of Commerce and Industry (EBFCI) held a meeting with leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at its Gulshan office in the capital on Wednesday, said an FBCCI press release.
Speaking at the meeting, chair of the meeting and FBCCI administrator Md Hafizur Rahman said that the European Union (EU) is one of the largest export destinations of Bangladesh products. It is also providing various facilities to Bangladesh over the years including GSP and EBA to expand trade.

He also hoped the EU would continue its support to Bangladesh in the coming days. The new FBCCI administrator also called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to supplement the government's efforts in building new Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of the interim government.

Hafizur sought more investment from expatriate Bangladeshi entrepreneurs living in EU countries in the fields of pharmaceuticals, capital market, agriculture and other potential sectors.

Visiting EBFCI delegation President Dr Wali Tasar Uddin said Bangladesh has high potential for attracting investment in education, healthcare and human resources development.

In the open discussion, business leaders stressed on signing more trade agreements between Bangladesh and the EU countries to boost trade and commerce side by side simplifying customs and visa procedures.

They also put emphasis on export diversification, improvement in packaging, marketing strategy, promotion and branding to make room in the mainstream of the European market instead of being limited within the ethnic community market.

Women Entrepreneur Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) president Nasrin Fatema Awal, former FBCCI directors, non executive directors of EBFCI, FBCCI general secretary Md Alamgir and other business leaders were present, among others, on the occasion.
