Representatives from the top ten universities in the United States (US) on Wednesday expressed a commitment to collaborate with Bangladesh to improve the quality of higher education and research.
This initiative was discussed during a courtesy meeting between officials from the US Embassy and the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), said a press release issued by Dr Shamsul Arefin, Director of UGC Public Relations Department.
UGC Chairman Prof SMA Faiz welcomed the proposal, which includes professional development for university faculty, the use of modern educational technologies, and the establishment of joint research programmes.
The delegation, led by US Embassy Public Affairs Counsellor Stephen Ibelli, emphasised the importance of long-term cooperation and support for meritorious Bangladeshi students.
During the meeting, Dr Faiz urged for increased opportunities, such as the fulbright scholarship programmes, particularly for young women and students affected by the quota reform movement.
UGC officials highlighted the necessity for enhanced soft skills and language training for students.
Discussions also focused on the establishment of ongoing dialogues between Bangladeshi and US institutions to explore innovations in education, scholarship opportunities, and other key areas, paving the way for a brighter future in higher education for Bangladesh.
