Biggest challenge now is to free party from corrupt elements: BNP leaders

BNP leaders said after the fall of the Awami League government the biggest challenge facing  them is to free the party from corrupt elements.

BNP is busy to maintain party discipline.
Many leaders are getting punished for defaming the party by getting involved in crimes.

Despite the initiatives, BNP could not completely prevent its leaders and activists from committing crimes like extortion.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman did not compromise on reforming the party.

On his request BNP is preparing a list of corrupt leaders and activists.

Some senior leaders are also in this list.

Regarding reforming the party, BNP Vice Chairman and Chittagong Division President Md Shahjahan told the Daily Observer that many of our leaders are still in jail, some cases have not been resolved yet. Many others were  injured by the fascist Awami League  government."

Shahjahan said, "Our  leader Tariq Rahman has called to reform BNP into a pro people party. There will be no place for the corrupt in BNP."

Shahjahan said that, strict monitoring is being done to ensure that no infiltrator gets any post in  BNP.

As BNP got a congenial political environment after 17 years, it leaders want to use this opportunity to strengthen the party.

The party has taken the initiative to replace   expired organisational district committees with  new committees.

In the first phase the party will remove inactive leaders and activists.

After two months, the Dhaka Metropolitan North (DMN) BNP committee was dissolved on Saturday due to allegations of extortion.
However, the allegations were rejected by   DMN leaders.

Meanwhile three district committees of Magura, Kushtia and Khulna districts of BNP have been dissolved to give responsibilities of the districts to convening committees.

Committees of Narayanganj city and district and  Gazipur city are expected to be replaced by  convening committees.

BNP source said, to form committees the party formed committees and sub-committees, said  party sources.

Meanwhile, under the guidance of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, a decision has been taken by the central leaders of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swachhasevak Dal and Chhatra Dal to hold  district-wise joint workers' meetings across the country.

For this purpose, a team has been formed with the top leaders of the three organisations.
On September 28, BNP began holding workers' meetings.

According to the party's sources, BNP does not want to dissolve all the expired district and metropolitan committees, as many district or metropolitan committees were active during the recent movement against the fascist Awami League government.

Dissolving all the district committees will send  wrong message to the leaders and activists at the grassroots.
