Rain damages advance vegetables at Nandipara

NANDIGRAM, BOGURA, Oct 3: Untimely rain damaged advance vegetables in Nandigram Upazila of the district.

The rain has been continuing for the last several days in the upazila. Submerged vegetable fields are getting damaged with roots rotting, Advance vegetables have been mostly cultivated in Haatkori, Tromohani, Dhundar, Kathom, Badlashon and Bijrul areas in the upazila.

The advance vegetables included cauliflower, red spinach, green spinach, radish, bean, tomato, bottle gourd, brinjal, long bean, chilli and others. 

According to sources at the upazila agriculture office, this season winter vegetable farming has been farmed targeted on 547 hectares of land in the upazila; but during Kharip-2 season, advance vegetables were farmed on some land.

A grower of Badlashon area Jalal Uddin said, " My brothers and I have farmed chilli on six bighas, and cauliflower and cabbage on six bighas. But non-stop raining damaged all these. Various diseases of toadstool attacks appeared."  

Grower Jewel Rana said, "Some saplings are getting damaged. Insecticide spraying is not working."

Upazila Agriculture Officer Gaziul Haq said, "We are advising growers for flashing out stranded water from fields soon after the rain and spraying anti-toadstool on saplings."
