Three men were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Gazipur, Narsingdi and Natore, in two days.
KALIGANJ, GAZIPUR: A man was killed by his rivals in a clash between two groups in Kaliganj Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Moktarpur Union of the upazila in the evening.
The deceased was identified as Zahidul Islam Shyamal, 50, son of late Gias Uddin, a resident of Ward No. 7 of that union.
According to local sources, a clash took place following a dispute between two local groups in the area over the invitation of an event in the evening. At that time, Zahidul Islam Shyamal was critically injured.
Later on, locals rescued him and took to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The deceased's brother Shamsul Haque filed a written complaint with Kaliganj Police Station (PS) being the plaintiff.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj PS Alauddin confirmed the incident on Thursday morning, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
NARSINGDI: A young man was slaughtered by his cousin brothers over a family dispute in the district town on Tuesday noon.
The incident took place in a broad daylight in front of Kawria Para Eidgah Gate in the town at around 2:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Hanif, 24, son of late Abdul Qadir, a resident of Chawala area in the town.
Local sources said that Hanif's cousin brothers Nayeem and Nadim attacked him in front of Kawria Para Eidgah Gate at noon, and hacked him indiscriminately with Chinese axe, and then, slaughtered him with a knife. Hanif died on the spot. Hundreds of people witness the scene at that time.
It was known that Nayeem and Nadim are the sons of Hanif's maternal uncle late Habib Ullah of the same area. It was alleged that Hanif murdered Habib Ullah about three months back, and following this, Nayeem and Nadim took revenge for the killing of their father.
Being informed, police visited the scene.
NATORE: A grocery shop owner was hacked to death over a previous enmity centring due money in Lalpur Upazila of the district early Tuesday.
The incident took place in Sousadanga Village under Kodimsilan Union of the upazila at around 2 am.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 45, a resident of the area.
Police, however, arrested a youth named Md Shahed Ali in connection with the incident.
Lalpur PS OC Md Nuruzzaman said that there had been a longstanding dispute between Shaheb Ali and Abdus Salam overdue money.
About a month back, there was a quarrel between them as Salam asked for the money to Shahed. During that altercation, Abdus Salam slapped Sahahed Ali. Then, Shahed Ali threatened to Abdus Salam.
Following that incident, at around 2 am on Tuesday, Shahed Ali set Salam's shop on fire and repeatedly called him loudly.
Shahed Ali hacked Salam indiscriminately with a machete as soon as he stepped out from his room. Salam died on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the law enforcers are trying to detain the accused and filing of a murder case with the PS is underway in this connection, the OC added.
