3,086 puja mandaps being set up in five districts

A total of 3,086 puja mandaps are being set up in five districts - Bogura, Gopalganj, Pirojpur, Chapainawabganj and Gaibandha, on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community.

The festival will begin on October 9 with due respect and religious fervour across the country and end on October 12 with immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.

BOGURA: At present, decorating work of idols in all puja mandaps is going on in full swing. A total of 632 mandaps are being set up in the district.

According to sources, idol-makers are passing busy time in painting idols and decorating puja mandaps.

Durga Puja will begin from October 9. People are coming from different areas to see idols. 

Idols are no longer made at mandap like before. Now idols are mostly made by makers in their own places. Later on, these are supplied to mandaps. 

Maker Kajal said, idol prices have been increased because of increased prices of bamboo and wood. 
 
On category basis, per idol is selling at Tk 40,000-50,000, he added.

This year, Dugra Puja will be held in 632 mandaps in Bogura, said Police Superintendent (SP) Jedan Al Musa. 

Different tiers of security measures will be maintained centring the Durga Puja, the SP added. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Golam Kibria said, 500 kilograms of rice were provided to each Mandap. 

GOPALGANJ: Idol-makers are passing busy time in painting statues of forthcoming Durga Puja in the district. 

The puja will be held in Gopalganj through 1,294 mandaps.

Along with Puja Udjapon Committee, security measures have been taken governmentally. 

Idol-makers are preparing 4-6 idols each. Per piece wage is Tk 30,000-60,000.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Kamruzzaman said, adequate security measures have been taken so that the puja could be celebrated  in a peaceful manner.

CCTV will be installed at each mandap, the DC added.

PIROJPUR: A total 443 puja mandaps are being installed in seven upazilas of the district. 

These included 60 mandaps in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila, 120 in Nazirpur, 100 in Nesarabad, 26 in Kawkhali, 47 in Bhandaria, 67 in Mathbaria, and 23 in Indurkani Upazila. 

General Secretary of District Puja Uddjapan Parishad Dola Guha said, location perspective 78 Mandaps are in high risk, 100 in risk and the remaining 265 ones are in less risk.

Considering the risk, CC cameras are set up in all Mandaps in the district to monitor situation.

Pirojpur SP Khan Muhammad Abu Naser said, tight security measures have been taken in the district; Ansar and police will be deployed at every Mandap, with CC cameras; and, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-8) surveillance has been ensured during the Puja festival as Hindu community desired. 

District administration police and army are jointly working in this connection, and intelligences are active, sources confirmed.

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A total of 156 mandaps were installed in the district to celebrate Durga Puja this year. 

Artisans are busy making idols of goddess Durga as people from the Hindu community in the district are going to celebrate the five-day Durga puja from October 9.

Artisans are now working to finish the erection of idols of goddess Durga with their ingenuity and colours to give those more stunning looks.

According to the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office in Chapainawabganj, Durga Puja will be celebrated at a total of 156 mandaps in the district.

Of these, 59 in Sadar Upazila, 46 in Shibganj Upazila, 32 in Gomastapur Upazila, 16 in Nachole Upazila and three mandaps will be set up in Bholahat Upazila of the district to celebrate the biggest festival of the Bengali Hindu community people.

The district administration has allocated 500 kilograms of rice for each mandap on this occasion.

Besides, Tk 1,98,000 has also been allocated from the Chief Advisor's Relief and Welfare Fund for 54 mandaps, said Additional DC (General) Ahmed Mahbub-Ul-Islam. 

Chapainawabganj SP Md Rezaul Karim said that tight security measures have been taken so that the devotees can perform all religious rituals and can visit the mandaps peacefully.

Members of Ansar would be deployed at all the mandaps. Police forces would be on patrol duty and the members of the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh and RAB would work as striking forces, he said.

No untoward incident has occurred anywhere in the district till now as the law enforcement agencies are putting constant vigilance across the district like elsewhere in the country, the SP added.

With a view to ensuring communal harmony during the celebration of Durga Puja, Convener of the Chapainawabganj District Unit of BNP Md Golam Zakaria held a view-exchange meeting with Hindu leaders on Tuesday.

Dablu Kumar Ghosh, president of the District Unit of Puja Udjapan Parishad, expressed satisfaction regarding the measures taken by the district administration, police administration and the other authorities concerned.

GAIBANDHA: A total of 561 puja mandaps will be installed in the district as preparations for holding Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, are progressing fast.

The 5-day long festival will begin on October 9 with due respect and religious fervour and conclude on October 13 through the immersion of idols at different water bodies including ponds, canals and rivers.

District Puja Udjapan Parishad President said that a total of 561 puja mandaps would be set up in the district this year.

Of these, some 92 mandaps are being installed in Sadar Upazila, 125 in Sundarganj Upazila, 126 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 90 in Sadullapur Upazila, 57 in Palashbari Upazila, 58 in Shaghata Upazila and 13 in Fulchhari Upazila of the district, he said.

The artisans (Malarkars) are passing their busy times with painting and other works to make the idols very attractive and nice looking to the devotees and the visitors.

Initiative has also been taken to provide uninterrupted power supply to the puja mandaps at nights to enable the Hindu devotees in offering their puja prayers, archana, kirtons, arati and other religious rituals, said an official.

Gaibandha SP Mosarrof Hossain said that a full-proof security measures have been taken in and around of all the puja mandaps of the district to ensure peaceful puja festival.

Police, Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) would be deployed at the puja mandaps each and RAB members would also patrol on the road as devotees can perform puja smoothly, he said. Stern and lawful action would be taken against troublemakers at the time of puja, the SP warned.

Earlier, a preparatory meeting to celebrate the festival peacefully was held in the conference room of the DC office in the district town on September 26 with DC Chowdhury Moazzam Ahmad in the chair.

A decision was also taken to open a control room in each upazila during the festival to watch the law and order situation in all the puja mandaps, said the DC office sources.
