Noor’s family goes through hardship losing lone wage earner!

The family of small fish trader Nobi Noor Morol endures financial hardship as he was martyred in an attack of police and Chhatra League over demonstrators in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, during the student-mass uprising.

Noor received bullet injuries on July 20 during the student-led movement that eventually toppled Sheikh Hasina's government ending its 15 years autocratic rule.

After being shot, Noor, son of late Karim Morol, hailing from Srikanthapur area under Raruli Union in Paikgachha Upazila of Khulna District, was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 21.

Noor's wife Aklima Begum said that her husband was shot as he was going to Wapda Road to collect money of sold fish from a buyer after saying Asr prayer at a mosque in the Savar area.

He was shot in the abdomen and waist as the police and the cadres of Awami League's student wing chased the protesters during the quota reform movement, she said.

Noor was rushed to a local private hospital, and later, shifted to Enam Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries at around 7:45 am the next day, Aklima recounted with emotion chocked voice.

Aklima, 46, now stares at a bleak future at the death of her only bread-earner husband. She immediately took shelter at her elder son-in-law's residence in the Banpukur area under Savar Police Station (PS) with her younger daughter after Noor's death.

She now wants to live by running her husband's small fish trading on the footpath in Banapukur area.

As Noor's dead body reached his native village at Paikgachha in Khulna on the night of July 21, a pall of gloom descended over the area. Later, Noor was buried at around 8:30 pm following a Namaz-e-Janaza.

Noor had two daughters and they are already married. Aklima said that she has become helpless after the death of her husband.

"I have lost my husband. Now I take shelter at my elder daughter's house and run my husband's fishing business. With few incomes, we can't run the five-member family easily," she said.

Aklima Begum also recounted their 26-year marriage and Noor's 20 years of fish trading.

"Noor was always worried about the future of our daughters," she added.

Aklima filed a case with Savar PS in this connection accusing 125 named and unnamed persons with ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina making the prime accused.

She demanded justice and exemplary punishment for the killer of Noor.

She also appealed to the government and the affluent people of the society to stand by her family members.

Paikgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahera Nazneen said, "We have already listed Nabi Noor Morol as a martyr during the quota reform movement and sent his name to the authority concerned."    —BSS
