Two people including a woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in two districts - Joypurhat and Chattogram, in three days.
JOYPURHAT: An elderly man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree branch in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday.
The body of the deceased Bokul Sheikh, 65, son of Akamuddin Sarkar and a resident of Sheikhpara area in the upazila, was recovered at around 8:30 am.
According to the deceased's family members, Bokul was distressed as his only income source has shut due to his illness. In the early hours of Friday, Bokul went out out of the house to perform Fazar prayer. Soon after that, he was found hanging from a branch of a tree at their family graveyard.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene in the morning and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Police Station (PS) Shahed Al Mamun confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
BOALKHALI, CHATTOGRAM: A young housewife reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Boalkhali Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The incident took place in Pashchim Shakpura area under Shakpura Union.
The deceased was identified as Liza Aktar, 19, a resident of the area.
The deceased's father Md Yunus said, "At around 9 am on Thursday, mother-in-law of my daughter called me and told that Liza committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room. She took her life any time at night."
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Boalkhali PS OC Golam Sarwar confirmed the incident, adding that the reason behind her death would be known after getting the autopsy report.
