FULBARI, KURIGRAM, Oct 6: Idol-makers are passing busy time in finishing their work in Fulbari Upazila of the district.

According to sources, this year Dugra Puja will be held in 67 mandaps in the upazila, due from October 9.

Along with men, women are also assisting in idol-making and decorating.

This year, idol making cost has been increased by Tk 2,000-3,000 per piece due to increased prices of bamboo, straws, earth and others.
Idol-making started one and a half months back.

Maker Amulla Chandra Ray of Nawdanga area said, "This year I got orders of eight   idols. I am working round the clock with 4-5 assistants for supplying the idols timely. I took the orders at Tk 15,000 per to 17,000 per piece."

After excluding cost, per idol profit will stand at Tk 5,000-6,000, he added.

He further said, huge money is spent for mandap decorating and arranging music,  but  organizers hesitate to give necessary money as idol-making charge.

He sought cooperation from the government to keep up this profession.

Dharani Kanta Barman said, "I am working round the clock. As I am not experienced in other work, I am doing that work in a compelling condition."

President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad Kartiq Chandra Sarkar and General Secretary Bharat Chandra Ray said, Durga Puja will be celebrated through 67 mandaps in the upazila from October 9 to 12.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rehenuma Tarannum said, this year extra security measures will be taken on the occasion of Durga Puja, with deployment of Ansar, police, RAB and BGB forces.

Officer-in-Charge of Fulbari Police Station Md Manirul Islam said, there will be a special team of police to ensure security by 100 per cent.
