Dengue scourge taking a turn for worse

Dengue has already claimed over 182 lives infected 35,365 people across the country. Dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes have spread from urban to rural areas. The monsoons have spread throughout the year.

So, along with the horrors, the scope of our responsibility and awareness is increasing day by day. The scope of responsibility has expanded from the ministry to the department to the unit to the individual level. So, all stakeholders are involved. It is very important to ensure the involvement of the respective bound area by increasing the awareness of all. It is our responsibility to determine the density of dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes, identify their breeding grounds and destroy them. To fulfill one's responsibilities one must nurture a strong will. Establish yourself as a conscious citizen. Every responsible individual in the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Agriculture and all related ministries should not rely only on fulfilling the duties given by the government. It should be connected with one's civic responsibility and sense of worth. Do not play around in a single management. You have to manifest good intelligence and desire in yourself. On the proportional basis of all categories of professions, service candidates and service providers should not be immersed in their work while acknowledging the limitations of the individuals and organizations. The range of subject-based technical education is increasing in the country. This is definitely a good sign.

We are aware that mosquitoes can only be killed by the use of insecticides. And this responsibility is only of City Corporation. Due to this wrong thinking, dengue has spread across the country today. Taking precious human life. The time has come for correction. Time has come to engage in awareness and integrate the health sector as part of the evolution of time. In continuation of this, recruitment and working environment indicators of required number of entomologists and entomological technologists in each unit.  According to one information, there are 94 posts of entomologist and entomological technologists in the City Corporation, CDC, Divisional Director's Office, Civil Surgeon's Office, etc., but only 47 posts are filled. There is no post at upazila, union level either. However, there is extreme crisis in the positions of the upper layers. 50% of them are vacant. How can this vital part of public health in the health sector continue in the absence of such manpower and lack of experts? All this remains underfunded and unfunded. Extreme scarcity of machinery and trained personnel. Public health being a multidisciplinary field, environmental and nutritional intensities deserve equal importance. Mosquitoes and the spread of mosquito-borne diseases can never be stopped unless the environment is clean and contamination free. Mosquito-associated dengue virus serotypes are also closely related to environmental factors.

As the mosquito's body becomes resistant, the virus it carries also mutates. Which becomes more terrifying than before. The death toll is increasing day by day. Again, the intensity of attack by serotypes also varies with changing environments. Just as its desired application by determining the accuracy of the environment and nutrition is certainly not possible without the will and accountability of the manpower engaged in vector control, elimination of the vector is never possible without the will, accountability and absolute patriotism of the workforce. Achieving the desired goal is possible only if patriotism and integrity are answered with daily work. If the proper management of whatever infrastructure and human resources is possible, then it should not be seen as undesirable and wasteful. If I ask myself, what is my contribution in controlling the Aedes mosquito? And how much my contribution to increase the breeding ground of mosquitoes. An assessment of the extent to which mosquito-laying and larval-producing areas are increasing daily due to human activities is in itself.

We know very well that virus-infected mosquitoes have spread all over the country, which has had the highest impact in Dhaka South City Corporation. Here finding the physical address of the patient is very important. If the current and permanent address search of each admitted patient yields a valid address, then at least 200 house-to-house crush programs must be carried out around that particular house. And due to lack of this proper crash program, dengue is spreading rapidly in remote areas. Now it is necessary to form a ward-wide Liasson committee under a strong expert team to keep dengue-infested areas under constant surveillance. At the same time having a strong workforce centrally with expert teams ready 24 hours a day. No negligence. Every life is precious. At the same time, for the treatment of dengue, an intensive dengue corner should be established in each upazila health complex and the presence of a trained dengue specialist should be ensured 24 hours a day. Assistant Agriculture Officers of the Ministry of Agriculture provide hands-on training to FFS farmers on how to apply IPM. In the same way, through the same training, the health workers should be involved and the people related to housing and public works should be equipped with the same knowledge. Each activity must be evaluated. We all need to remember the country. In order to keep every part of it functioning, it is necessary to be healthy and free from diseases. This conviction must be expressed by all.

Viruses are invisible to the eye; Likewise, it cannot be confirmed when and where the mosquito will bite. So, destroying mosquito breeding grounds is the best solution. Which will act as the main supporting force to ensure a clean environment. People who carelessly increase and preserve the breeding ground of mosquitoes should be involved in the destruction of that breeding. When a driver washes a car in a garage, he is responsible for removing the accumulated water. Car waste tire should be cleaned only by the persons working in the workshop. Those who clean and dump waste should ensure that no wet containers are left in the open. Even the dumping station cannot have any open wet containers.

Coming back to the opening line of the poet of humanity, Kazi Nazrul Islam, let not a single drop of blood be sucked by a mosquito. Dengue should not even a drop of tear can destroy us. To that end, calm down the good man of awareness that lies hidden in everyone, bring yourself under accountability, and immerse yourself fully in this terrible killer pain.
