Export and import operations between Bangladesh and India through Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj will remain suspended for six consecutive days, from October 9 to October 14, in observance of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
However, passenger movement for those with valid passports and visas will continue as usual.
Normal trade operations are scheduled to resume on the morning of October 15, confirmed Mamun Or Rashid, General Secretary of the Sonamasjid Land Port Import-Export Group on Tuesday.
The decision to suspend trade has been coordinated with authorities at India’s Mahadipur Land Port, who notified their Bangladeshi counterparts in advance via official correspondence, he said.
Meanwhile, Jafar Iqbal, Immigration in-charge (sub-inspector) at Sonamasjid, assured that immigration services for passport holders will remain operational. Though trade will be halted, the immigration office will stay open, and routine administrative work will continue during this period.
