GAZIPUR, Oct 9: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) has secured the top position among all public and private universities in Bangladesh in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2025.
This ranking was published on Wednesday on the website of the prestigious UK-based education magazine, Times Higher Education.
According to the results, BSMRAU ranks first nationally and holds a commendable position internationally, falling within the 801-1000 range. This year's ranking assessed 2,092 institutions across 115 countries, focusing on five key areas: teaching, research environment, quality of research, industry engagement, and international outlook. The evaluation was based on 18 specific criteria. On the international stage, BSMRAU ranks just above Turkey's Bahçe?ehir University and is followed by India's Bharathiar University.
Globally, the top three universities in this ranking are the University of Oxford in the UK, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, both in the USA.
Professor Dr G K M Mustafizur Rahman, responsible for the university's administrative and financial matters, remarked that this remarkable achievement is a testament to their dedicated efforts.
He expressed confidence that this success will further enhance the university's reputation on both national and international platforms.
In the 2024 THE Impact Ranking, BSMRAU was ranked ninth nationally and third among public universities in the country, while in the 2024 World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI), it held the top position among government universities in the technology category.
