At least three people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka and Tangail on Friday.
A man was killed after a truck hit his motorcycle and ran him over on Elephant Road in Dhaka on Thursday night. The deceased, Fuad Hossain, 32, hailed from Lalmohan upazila of Bhola district.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition around midnight, where doctors pronounced him dead, said Inspector Md Faruk, In-charge of the DMCH Police Camp.
Masum Mia, a distant relative of the victim, said Fuad lived with his wife and two-and-a-half-year-old son at Kazla in Jatrabari.
He worked as a driver for Al Noor Eye Hospital in Mohammadpur. After finishing work on Thursday evening, he was riding his motorcycle home when, in front of Multiplan Market on the Elephant Road, a truck struck him from behind.
Fuad was thrown off the bike and subsequently run over by the same truck. Bystanders rescued him and took him to DMCH, where he died while receiving treatment later that night, Masum added. Our Tangail Correspondent reports a driver and a helper of a truck were killed as the truck collided head-on with a covered van at Kalihati upazila of the district on Friday morning.
The dead truck driver, Anwarul Islam, 30, hailed from Maheshpur of Thakurgaon, while identity of the helper could not be known immediately.
Elenga Fire Service In-charge Ataur Rahman and Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahadat Hossain said when the North Bengal-bound truck reached Shalla area around 5:30 in the morning, it collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound covered van, leaving three people trapped in the vehicles.
