A college student and two minor boys drowned in separate incidents in three districts - Barishal, Natore and Chattogram, in two days.
BARISHAL: A college student drowned in a pond in Gournadi Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Fahim Bin Feroz Ratul, son of Titu Fakir, a resident of Chargadhatali Mohalla under Gournadi Municipality. He was a honours three year student of Barishal BM College.
Quoting locals, Gournadi Fire Service Station Officer Md Bipul Hossain said that Ratul along with his three friends was bathing in a pond on the Upazila Parishad premises. At one stage, he went missing in the pond.
On information, the Fire Service personnel rushed in and rescued Ratul. They then took him to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Ratul dead, the Fire Service official added.
BAGATIPARA, NATORE: A minor boy drowned in a ditch in Bagatipara Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Samad, 2, son of farmer Mukul Hossain, a resident of Kkhidramalanchi Mollapara Village under the upazila.
It was known that Abdus Samad was playing on the house yard in the afternoon. At one stage, he fell in a ditch next to the house while his family members were unaware of it.
Later on, the family members rescued the child from the water body at around 4:45 pm and took him to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as there was no complaint lodged from them.
Officer-in-Charge of Bagatipara Model Police Station Aminul Haque confirmed the incident.
CHATTOGRAM: A madrasa student drowned in a pond in Karnaphuli Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the Jamiatul Mamur Jame Masjid pond in West Dakpara area of Baruthan Village under the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Mizbah Uddin, 6, son of Shamsul Alam Mistri of the area. He was a nursery student of Al Mostafa (PBUH) Islamia Sunnia Madrasa in Dakpara area of the upazila.
Madrasa Director Hafez Noor Uddin Rubel said that Mizbah went to play beside the pond after taking leave at around 12:30 pm.
Locals, Madrasa students, and the family members rescued the boy in an unconscious state and brought him to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital at around 2:40 pm, where the on-duty physicians declared him dead.
