A local journalist was hacked to death in Tarakanda Upazila of Mymensingh District on Saturday morning over previous enmity.
Deceased Swapan Bhadra, 55, son of Jagesh Chandra Bhadra, was a former vice-president of Tarakanda Press Club. He was actively involved with both local and national newspapers.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station Safiqul Islam Khan said that Swapan was against terrorism and drug trafficking in the area. Due to this, he had a longstanding dispute with a local drug dealer, named Sagar.

As a sequel to it, Sagar attacked on Swapan with a knife at around 11 am on Saturday while he was reading a newspaper outside his house and left the place leaving Swapan critically injured.

Locals then rescued Swapan and took the injured to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police have recovered the body.

However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to detain the accused, the OC added.
