Eight people have been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) over the dacoity at the residence of a businessman at Mohammadpur in the capital.
The RAB also said they recovered Tk 7 lakh looted by the dacoits from the residence.
The eight persons were arrested conducting raids at different places in the capital on Saturday, said the RAB.
RAB's Legal and Media Wing's director Lt Col Munim Ferdous said on Sunday that five, out of eight arrested persons, are the sacked personnel of different security forces. The rest three are the common people. A gold made bracelet and a ring were also recovered from their possession.
"If anyone of the security forces is found involved in the robbery, he will be arrested instantly," Munim Ferdous said.
Police sources said the dacoits entered the house introducing themselves as members of the joint forces. Then they looted cash Tk 75 lakh and 70 bhories of gold ornaments. The CCTV footage of the surrounding areas have been seized.
In connection with the dacoity, one Abu Bakar Siddique, a land, brick and sand trader, filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station on Saturday night.
Abu Bakar Siddique said, "At about 3:30am on Saturday, 20 to 25 people wearing Army and RAB uniforms came in front of their house. They first pushed the gate forcibly. Being scared, the caretaker of the house opened the door. Along with the caretaker, they came at my flat. Opening the door, I found all of them attire with the Army and RAB uniforms. They first wanted to search my residence claiming that there was a gun at the flat. I then told them that I had already deposited my licenced gun. So, there was no gun at the flat. Then they broke the almirahs and drawers at all the rooms and took away whatever they found there. In such a way they took away cash and jewelries from all the rooms."
