‘Capacity-building training can help reduce loss of life, property’

GAIBANDHA, Oct 16: Speakers at a function here on Wednesday said capacity-building training can make  there source pool members efficient to reduce loss of life and properties  during the emergency. 

"The four major rivers blow through the district that is why the district experiences devastating flood every year, creating untold sufferings to the flood-hit people of Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Saghata upazilas of the district. 
If the people of flood-prone areas of the district are made aware about advanced preparedness before the flood, the loss of properties and assets would be reduced. In this context, the members of district-level resource pool formed by District Relief and Rehabilitation  Office can play important role in reducing loss of life and properties during the flood", they also said.
 
They made the comments while they were addressing a two-day long capacity building training for the district level resource pool members at SKS Inn located at Radhakrishnapur area under Sadar Upazila in the district on Wednesday noon. 

The training was arranged under the project of Child Centered Anticipatory Action for Better Preparedness of Communities and Local Institutions in Northern and Coastal Areas of Bangladesh being implemented by Save the Children in partnership with Gaibandha based non-government organization SKS Foundation at Sundarganj, Fulchhari and Sadar upazilas in the district.
 
ADC-General Dewan Moudud Ahmed attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, District Fisheries Officer Abdur Rashid and Senior Manager of Save the Children Md Farooque Hossain spoke at the inaugural session as special guests while Project Manager Md Jalal Uddin presided over the ceremony. 

Speaking at the function, ADC-General Dewan Moudud Ahmed, in his speech, said the early forecasting and warning can help the people including the children of flood-prone areas save them from hazards and loss caused by floods. 

In this context, the capacity-building training for the resource pool members would enhance their efficiency to attain the cherished goal of the project, which is running here with the financial support of German Federal Foreign Office, he added. 
Later on, the ADC formally inaugurated the training as the chief guest.

Almost all members of the district level resource pool are taking part in the training.
