Candidates who completed the 46th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary test insisted that the required preparations be done in order to administer the written exams as quickly as feasible.

The demand was made on Wednesday during a press conference held at the office of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA).
Reading out from a written statement, Sirajul Islam Sohag, one of the candidate, said, "The preliminary exam of the 46th BCS was held on April 26, where 254,425 candidates participated. According to the results published on May 9, 10,638 candidates passed."

"Through news media, we learned that several employees of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) were arrested on allegations of question leaks. Some of them reportedly confessed about their involvement in the leaks during their statements to the magistrate under Section 164. One employee even stated in his confession that out of 17 candidates in the preliminary exam, 13 candidates were facilitated to pass," said Siraj.

He added, "It is very unfortunate that some are demanding cancellation of the entire 46th BCS exam because of this incident. Meanwhile, we, who have passed the test, have pursued our dreams through many adversities … How can we disregard such sacrifices? We know the BPSC had always been known for its transparency and impartiality. However, if they commit injustice under pressure today, this constitutional institution will lose its glory."

Demanding punishment for those involved in the question leak, Siraj said, "Countless talented young students are burdened with stories of hidden struggles-marriage pressures, family responsibilities, and additional financial burdens. A decision to cancel the 46th BCS would be a curse for them. If the confession made by that employee under Section 164 is true, then those involved should be identified and legal action should be taken against them."

Siraj demanded an investigation into the question paper leaks instead of cancelling the entire BCS examination, so that their hard work was recognised.

He urged that instead of cancellation, a date for the written exams should be announced quickly so that every candidate can pursue their dreams.

He added if the new commission thinks further investigations are necessary for the sake of transparency, they welcome that decision.

"If proof is found during the investigation into the question leaks, those involved should be identified and punished accordingly," Siraj said and urged the BPSC to take necessary steps to conduct the written examinations of the 46th BCS as soon as possible.
