A Dhaka court imposed travel bans on eight people, including three former lawmakers, over graft allegations.
They are --- former railways minister and lawmaker from Rajbari-2 Md Zillul Hakim, his wife Syeda Hakim and their son Ashik Mahmud Mitul; former Feni-2 lawmaker Md Nizam Uddin Hazari and his wife Nurjahan Begum; former AL lawmaker from Bogura-5 Md Habibur Rahman, his son Mohammad Asif Iqbal; former director general (DG) of Postal Department Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Ash-Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the orders, allowing separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Deputy Director of ACC Md Nurul Huda pleaded for banning foreign travel of Hazari and his wife, while deputy director Asaduzzaman filed a petition for imposing travel ban on Habibur and his son, and Assistant Director Mohammad Zinnatul Islam submit application against Rajbari-2 Md Zillul Hakim.
ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir moved the applications on behalf of the anti-graft body.
The applications mentioned they all are currently under investigation for allegations of abuse of power, various irregularities, corruption involving the acquisition of hundreds of crores in their names and the names of their family members.
As there are credible reports that the accused might attempt to flee the country, so, a travel ban is needed to prevent them from going abroad.
Meanwhile, the same court imposed travel ban on former director general (DG) of Postal Department Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra.
The judge also ordered the ACC to send the order sheets to the special superintendent of police (immigration) of the Special Branch for the next course of action.
