Outsourced employees, working at various government institutions, on Saturday blocked the Shahbagh Intersection in the capital for hours demanding nationalisation of their jobs.

The protest under the banner of Anti-Discrimination Outsourcing Movement was joined by hundreds of employees, coming from different parts of the country.

The blockade, beginning from around 10:00am, halted traffic movement in and around the area.

The blockade was withdrawn at around 4:45pm, warning that they would wage tougher movement if their demand was not met.

Md Abdur Rakib Sonet, central coordinator of the movement, said, "Officers and employees outsourced to various government departments and offices across the country are working tirelessly with integrity and dedication to serve the nation and its people."

However, this is based on what he described as a "black law" or a form of digital slavery under the 2018 Outsourcing Policy. According to him, both the employees and the government are facing financial losses because of this system.

He pointed out that through the outsourcing law, contractors are embezzling government funds by engaging in tender businesses.

He claimed that contractors are siphoning off hundreds of crores of taka every month in the name of supplying manpower.
