BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Saturday, "Since the issues of reform have been identified, I think that the work of reform should be started as soon as possible to bring the country into a democratic process."
Speaking at a view exchanging meeting, "Civil Society: Past, Present and Future" at a hotel in the capital he said, "Many people talk a lot about how Bangladesh will be and what to do in future. Everyone can give his or her opinion, but no one has the right to decide except the people."
Khasru said, "It is not possible for any group or any power to solve problems of the country. If anyone tries to do it, the future will not be good," he said.
He said, "After ousting the dictator many revolutionary changes have taken place in the country. Now we need to reform everything from civil society to politics and NGOs. Politicians and the NGOs should think how to bring those reforms."
Khasru said, without elected government investment, curbing commodity prices, ensuring economic development, restoring voting right, rule of law and human rights is not possible.
About NGOs role, he said, today many people here say that they have always worked, protested and tried to stop violence against women, I would say, it is not correct.
