The coastal regions of Satkhira district have been experiencing rainfall since Wednesday morning as the cyclonic storm "Dana" developed in the Bay of Bengal.
Areas in Shyamnagar upazila, particularly those near the Sundarbans—such as Gabura, Padmapukur, and Burigoalini—are currently facing wet weather conditions.
Zulfikar Ali Ripon, acting officer at the Satkhira Weather Office, confirmed that the depression over the Bay intensified into a cyclone on Wednesday and was subsequently named 'Dana.' He noted that rainfall is expected to increase in the evening.
Md Shahinul Alam, Disaster Management Officer for Shyamnagar upazila, reported that a total of 162 cyclone shelters, including 102 government facilities, are prepared to accommodate residents. Additionally, sufficient dry food supplies have been stocked, and 2,980 members of the Cyclone Preparedness Program (CPP), along with other volunteers, are on standby to assist.
Prince Reza, sub-divisional officer of the Water Development Board in Shyamnagar, highlighted the region's infrastructure, noting that there are approximately 360 kilometers of embankments in the area, with six to seven points identified as particularly vulnerable.
Salauddin, Executive Engineer of Satkhira Water Development Board-1, stated that three kilometers out of the total 380 kilometers of embankments have been classified as extremely vulnerable.
However, he reassured residents that, barring a major disaster, there is no immediate threat of the embankments collapsing.
