Unprecedented, 54 Bangladeshis held in West Bengal in a day

West Bengal (WB) police and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) have arrested 54 Bangladesh nationals from two frontiers of the state in a day which is unprecedented in its history.

They have been arrested for illegal trespassing to India.
Though the identities of the detained persons were not disclosed, the West Bengal police and BSF said the intruders wanted to leave their country for various reasons. Some of them also wanted to enter Indian in search of jobs.

According to the West Bengal Police, law enforcing agencies led by OC Muhammad Khurshid Alam raided different places in Murshidabad district on Monday (October 21) night, and arrested 41 Bangladesh nationals from village Nashipur under Ranitola police station adjacent to the India-Bangladesh border.

The arrested Bangladesh nationals were produced before a court in the district court. Police pleaded to the court to place the arrested persons on remand to know why they entered India illegally. Later, the court placed them on a five-day remand.

In another incident, 13 Bangladesh nationals were arrested by Border Security Force (BSF) from Swarupnagar area, adjacent to Bhomra-Ghojadanga frontier under North 24 Pargana district.

The BSF claimed that the arrested persons entered India illegally through Bithari Tarali and Koijuri BOP areas after Tuesday midnight. BSF 143 Battalion members arrested them. Among the arrested persons, there were seven children, four women and two men. All of them hailed from Satkhira district of Bangladesh. When they were produced before a Bashirhat court, the judge ordered to send them to judicial custody for 14 days.
