The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 as Cyclone Dana moves closer to the coasts of Bangladesh.
According to a Met office bulletin, the storm was located over the Eastcentral Bay and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal as of 6:00 pm on Wednesday, with the cyclone approximately 650 km southwest of Chattogram, 595 km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 585 km south of Mongla, and 555 km south-southwest of Payra.
The storm is expected to continue moving west-northwest and intensify further. The maximum sustained wind speed near the cyclone's center is about 62 kph, with gusts reaching up to 88 kph. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone's center.
Authorities have advised all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and deep sea to seek shelter until further notice due to the dangerous conditions at sea.
