The severe cyclonic storm 'Dana' created in the Bay of Bengal has approached to the coast further, raising the tidal waves above than normal at the coastal areas. It created great concern among the inhabitants living in the coastal areas.
However, there is no possibility of cyclone 'Dana' entering the plains of Bangladesh, said Dr Md Bazlur Rashid, Meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), on Thursday.
He said the cyclone 'Dana' now lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining areas. It was centred at 12 noon on Thursday (October 24) about 570 kilometers Southwest of Chittagong Port, 535 kilometers Southwest of Cox's Bazar Port, 435 kilometers South-Southwest of Mongla Port and 435 kilometers South-Southwest of Payra Port.
It is likely to move towards North-Northwestwards further and may cross North Odisha-West Bengal coast of India between Puri and Sagar Island around Thursday (October 24) midnight.
There is no apprehension that cyclone 'Dana' may enter the Bangladesh land.
Under the peripheral effect of the cyclonic storm, heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy (89mm) rainfall with gusty or squally wind may occur over North Bay, their offshore islands, chars and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the severe cyclone center is about 90 kph rising to 110 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain high near the system center.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No. 3.
Under the peripheral affect pf the cyclone 'Dana' and sttep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Barguna, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Bhola, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Feni Chattogram and Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 2 to 3 feet high above normal astronomical tides.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
