HPV vaccination campaign begins in districts

The Human Papillomavirous (HPV) vaccination campaign was began on Thursday morning across the country to protect Juvenile girls from cervical cancer.

With the support of UNICEF, Gavi, and the World Health Organization (WHO), the government launched the HPV vaccination campaign for 18 days in the country. 

KHULNA: Around 800,000 girls, aged 10 to 14, both in and out of school, will receive the HPV vaccine free of cost in the division. Besides, 71,328 girls also receive vaccine in the district

Director General of the Directorate of Health and Education Professor Dr Nazmul Hossain inaugurated the campaign in the Khulna Division in a function held at the Government Coronation Secondary Girls High School in the morning as the chief guest.

Addressing the function, the chief guest said that cervical cancer is possible to prevent through HPV vaccine. So, adolescent girls should receive the HPV vaccine free of cost in Khulna Division.

He further said that the government is committed to ensuring healthcare for all through coordinated efforts of all concerned.

"We are determined to make this HPV vaccination campaign a success. Our past achievements in reducing maternal and child mortality through vaccination programmes give us confidence that we will succeed in this effort," he added.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Helal Mahmud Sharif addressed the function as the special guest with Director of the Directorate of Health and Education in Khulna Division Dr Md Monjurul Murshid in the chair.

Director (Planning and Development) of the Directorate of Health and Education Dr Md Masudur Rahman, Director of the Khulna Family Planning Department Bikash Kumar Das, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Sheikh Shafiqul Islam, Director of Khulna Medical College Hospital Dr Gautom Kumar Paul, Director of Abu Naser Hospital Dr Sheikh Abu Shaheen and Headmistress of the Government Coronation Secondary Girls High School Makami Maksuda, among others, also spoke at the inaugural programme.

Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner and also the Administrator of Khulna City Corporation Md Helal Mahmud Sharif inaugurated the HPV vaccination campaign at Khulna Collegiate Girls School and Women College in the city. 

RANGPUR: Like elsewhere, this campaign was launched in Rangpur Division to protect millions of adolescent girls from cervical cancer, a leading cause of death among women in the country.  

Rangpur Divisional Acting Commissioner Md Azmal Hossain inaugurated the campaign for all eight districts of the division in a function held at Samajkallyan Bidyabithi Girls High School in Rangpur City as the chief guest. 

Over the next one month, around 900,000 girls, aged 10 to 14, both in and out of school, will receive the HPV vaccine free of charge in the division.  

Addressing the function, the chief guest said that the government is committed to ensuring healthcare for all through coordinated efforts of all concerned.  

Chief of UNICEF's Rangpur Field Office AH Towfique Ahmed praised the Divisional Health Office for its leadership in mobilising networks to ensure the campaign's success across Rangpur Division.  

He said, "We are proud to support the Government of Bangladesh in introducing the HPV vaccine. This vaccine is a vital tool in protecting the future of adolescent girls across the country."  

Towfique Ahmed highlighted the importance of leveraging multisectoral partnerships and digital platforms to boost HPV vaccine registration awareness. 

"We are working with local media, social media and various community networks including Health and Family Planning district and upazila workforces to reach younger audiences and hard-to-reach populations. Our efforts are ensuring broad awareness and vaccine uptake across Rangpur division," he said.

Deputy Director of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Dr Mohammad Shahriar Sajjad said that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in Bangladesh and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths.
  
"This vaccine is safe, highly effective, and crucial in preventing cervical cancer," he added.

Rangpur Regional Deputy Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Md Shafiqul Islam urged school authorities to take proactive measures to ensure girls are vaccinated after registration.

Rangpur Divisional Director of Health Dr Md Harun-Or-Rashid, who chaired the event, said, "We are working with all networks and partnerships to meet our vaccination targets by bringing all eligible adolescents under the HPV vaccination programme."

RANGAMATI: The HPV vaccination campaign also began in the district on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan inaugurated the campaign at a programme held at Rangamati Government Girls High School in the district town in the morning as the chief guest.

Superintend of Police Dr SM Farhad Hossain, Additional DC (ADC) and Municipal Administration Nasrin Sultana, District CS Dr Nuyen Khisa, and District Education Officer Mridul Kanti Talukder, among others, were also present at the inaugural function.

Over the next one month, around 29,467 girls, aged 10 to 14, both in and out of school, will receive the HPV vaccine free of charge in the district.  

A total of 12,917 girls in the district registered for the vaccination till Wednesday. 

The campaign will conduct at 159 centres in 50 union parishads, and the girls, from fifth to ninth grades in 955 educational institutes in the district, will be given the vaccines in first phase.

SIRAJGANJ: The HPV vaccination campaign began in the district with a vow protect Juvenile girls from cervical cancer.
ADC (General) Gonopati Roy, as the chief guest, inaugurated the campaign at a programme held in the hall room of Sirajganj Collectorate School and College in the district town in the morning.

Sirajganj CS Dr Nurul Amin, in the programme, said that more than six lakh women are being affected by cervical cancer across the world every year. Of the affected, about 3.42 lakh are dying. In Bangladesh, 11 women in every 1 lakh are being affected by this, and of them, about 4,971 affected are dying every year.

Over the next 18 days, around 1,50,092 girls, aged 10 to 14, both in and out of school, will receive the HPV vaccine free of charge in the district.  

The campaign will conduct at 5,215 centres in the district. 

President of Sirajganj Press Club Harun Ar Rashid Khan Hasan, Medical Officer of the district's CS office Dr Md Riazul Islam, Senior Health Education Officer Md Iman Ali and Superintend of District EPI Md Abdul Motaleb Khan, among others, were also present at the function.
