Masato Kanda sole candidate for next ADB presidency

Masato Kanda, Special Advisor to Japan's Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, is the sole candidate for next ADB presidency.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has officially closed the nomination period for its next President, with voting by ADB's Board of Governors set to begin on October 28, 2024, an ADB press release said.

ADB Presidents are nominated from among its regional members and elected by the Board of Governors.

Nominations for this election were accepted from September 24 to October 23, 2024. But, no country except Japan came up with any proposal for its next president.

Governors will be invited to cast their votes on Kanda's candidacy by November 27, 2024. The outcome will be announced on November 28, 2024.

ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific, while sustaining its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.

Established in 1966, it is owned by 69 members, 49 from the region.
