Gold bars weighing about 7kg were seized from a US-Bangla aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday (October 27).
The estimated market value of the gold is Tk 7.75 crore.
Customs detectives said in a press release that a flight (BS-218) of US-Bangla Airlines from Bangkok landed at the airport around 3:45pm on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Customs officials took a position in the Bay-20 area where the plane landed.
They conducted a search in the plane after the passengers disembarked.
At one point, they found two bundles wrapped in ash and black tape on top of the life jackets placed beneath the 14-A and 15-A seats.
A total of 60 gold bars were found when the bundles were opened at the airport’s green channel.
The weight of each gold bar is 116 grams. The total weight of the recovered gold bars is 6kg and 960 grams.
No one was arrested in the incident.
