The Bangladesh Army has detained 22 more individuals from different areas of Mohammadpur for their alleged involvement in different criminal activities, including mugging, robbery and extortion.
A release of Inter-Service of public Relations (ISPR) on Monday evening said a total of 22 alleged muggers, robbers, extortionists and members of juvenile gang were arrested from Dhaka Udyan, Chand Udyan and Geneva Camp on Monday.
Of the arrestees, two are top drug dealers, 10 muggers, and seven others are juvenile gang members. They were handed over to the concerned police stations for legal action.
Earlier, on Saturday (October 26), joint forces, led by members of the army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) and police, detained 45 individuals in connection with a series of factional clashes, extortions and robberies in Mohammadpur area.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Mohammadpur area has become one of the most crime-prone areas in the capital, with incidents of gunfire, robbery, theft, and armed assaults becoming a daily occurrence.
Meanwhile, a video footage of armed individuals robbing a mini supermarket in Basila circulated on social media on Friday night frustrating the city dwellers as well.
Besides, at least three individuals have been killed in shootouts while several others have sustained bullet injuries due to clashes over drug peddling in last month.
The release said these operations are being conducted as a part of regular patrolling and operations by the joint forces assigned areas under 'In Aid to Civil Power' to implement the directives of the interim government.
