Bangladeshi bowlers struggled to claim South African wickets over the first two days of the second and final Test of the two-match series but South Africa needed less than an hour to dismantle Bangladesh's top order reducing them to 38 runs for four wickets in their first innings.

Resuming on their overnight score of 307 for two, South Africa declared their innings at 575 for six on Wednesday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, powered by three centuries.

Starting from his previous day's 18, David Bedingham scored 59 runs before his dismissal. Tony de Zorzi, who began the day on 141, added 36 more to his score before ending his innings with 12 fours and four sixes off 269 balls. Kyle Verreynne went out for a duck, while Ryan Rickelton managed 12 runs.

Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy then dominated the Bangladeshi bowlers setting a new record for South Africa's best seventh-wicket partnership against Bangladesh with an unbroken 154-run stand.

Mulder remained not out on 105 off 150 balls, while Muthusamy was unbeaten on 70. Other notable contributions included Tristan Stubbs' 106 and captain Aiden Markram's 33.

Taijul Islam was the key bowler for Bangladesh, who took all of the first five wickets to achieve his 14th five-wicket haul in Tests. Nahid Rana claimed the remaining wicket.

In response to South Africa's massive total, Bangladesh's top order collapsed quickly. Opener Shadman Islam was dismissed for a duck. Zakir Hasan, who was dropped in the Mirpur Test after a highest score of 40 across eight innings from tours of Pakistan and India, returned to the team for the Chattogram Test but scored only two.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributed 10 runs, while pacer Hasan Mahmud, who was sent in as a nightwatchman, managed just three.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on four and six runs respectively as Bangladesh ended the day under pressure.

Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets for South Africa, while Dane Paterson and Keshav Maharaj took one each.
