November 30 is the last day to file income tax returns. If anyone fails to file the return within this period, he will have to pay fines and interest as per the Income Tax Act.
Although last year the National Board of Revenue (NBR) extended time for filing returns by two months, the tax authority wants to know this time also whether such time extension will also required this year as well.
Many people have asked this question. However, the NBR is not making clear this issue until now. At a press briefing on Sunday at NBR conference room on Tax Service Month, NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan on a question said they have not yet thought about it.
We will see how much returns have been filed by November 30th. Since the public life was affected during the mass uprising in July-August period, many may demand time extension.
He said, the NBR will discuss with policymakers about extending the filing time of tax returns. If they agree, time can be extended. However, there is no way to say about it in advance.
