National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed and its five members have resigned.

They submitted their resignation letters to the President on Thursday, NHRC public relations officer Usha Rahman said.

The NHRC members are Md Selim Reza (full time member), Md Aminul Islam, Kangjari Chowdhury, Dr Bishwajit Chanda and Dr Tania Huque.

Former Secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed was appointed as NHRC chairman on December 9, 2022 with the facilities including salary of a Supreme Court judge during his tenure.

There are allegations that he did not utter a single words against the former Awami League government's gross violation of human rights over the killing of hundreds of students by law enforcers during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the country.
