107 smuggled mobile handsets seized; one held

Police in a drive on Tuesday arrested one person with 107 smuggled mobile handsets and 186 headphones from  capital’s  Jatrabari area .

The arrested was identified as Safi Alam, 34.
A media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said a team of Jatrabari police station intercepted a private car which was coming from Cumilla and recovered the handsets and headphones.

They also seized the private car.

The release said that the mobile phone handsets were brought from India evading VAT-tax and believed to be supplied in different markets.

A case was filed in this connection.
