Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a teenager with 10 gold bars at the Bhomra border in Satkhira.
The arrest took place on Thursday afternoon in the Falmoar area.
The 17-year-old detainee, Sumon Islam, is a resident of Lakshidari village in Satkhira Sadar Upazila and the son of Abdul Gafur Gazi.
Lieutenant Colonel Ashraf-ul-Haque, Commander of Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion, said that they received intelligence about an attempt to smuggle gold into India through the Bhomra border. Acting on this information, a special team led by Subedar Afzal Hossain of Bhomra Company set up a check-post in the area. Shortly thereafter, Sumon Islam was spotted walking toward the border. Upon intercepting and searching him, BGB personnel found 10 gold bars wrapped in black adhesive tape in his pants pocket.
The total weight of the seized gold is 1.2 kilograms, with an estimated value of approximately Tk 1.4 crore.
Commander Ashraf-ul-Haque added that the gold would be deposited at the Treasury Office and the accused would be handed over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
Meanwhile, BGB also conducted an operation in the Kakdanga border area, where they seized four bottles of LSD, a highly potent drug.
