A case has been filed accusing six people in connection with the murder of college student Emran Hossain Rifat at Parshuram in Feni district.
Police arrested two of the accused and sent them to jail through a court in Feni on Friday (November 15).
The 19-year-old Rifat's father Ismail Hossain mentioned in the case that his son was murdered on suspicion of informing about smuggled goods.
He filed a case at Parshuram Police Station on Thursday night making Rafiqul Islam Rony as the prime accused.
The accused are Rafiqul Islam Rony, 19, son of Habib Ullah of Dakkhin Ketaranga under Parshuram upazila; Md Yakub Nabi Shopon, 25, son of Md Yusuf Mia; Shakil, 23, son of Abul Hashem; Ismail, 45, son of Md Ruhul Amin; Abul Kashem, 45, son of Hossain Mia of village Mohammadpur; and Karim, 45, of village Satkuchia.
Besides, four to five people were made unnamed accused in the case. Of them, Abul Kashem and Shopon were arrested and sent to jail through a court.
On the other hand, body of Rifat Hossain was buried at his family graveyard after namaj-e-janaza at Dakkhin Ketranga Master Para Noorani Madrasa ground under the upazila early Friday morning after the postmortem of his body.
Slain Rifat was a student of Class XI at Parshuram Government Degree College. He hailed from village Dakkhin Katranga of Balks Mahmud Union under the upazila.
The case statement states that accused Rafiqul Islam Rony used to bring smuggled goods from Indian border along the house of college student Rifat. On Tuesday, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized a large quantity of smuggled goods of Rony. He started suspecting college student Rifat's hands behind the incident. At one stage, Rony along with his 7 to 8 accomplices went to Rifat's house on Tuesday evening and threatened him. Rony also threatened Rifat to kill once he came out of his house.
Rifat's father Ismail Hossain said, "Rony and his associates are the members of a smuggling gang. They use my area as a route to take and bring smuggled goods to and from India. As my son protested the matter, Rony and his accomplices thretened to kill him. On Tuesday, the BGB personnel seized a large quantity of goods. Being suspicious about my son's involvement in the incident, Rony and his men came at my house early Thursday afternoon and took him out of the house tactfully. At one stage, my son had an altercation with them. Then Rony murdered my son stabbing on his chest with a sharp knife and holding his hands together."
Parshuram Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Md Nurul Hakim said Rifat's father filed a case in connection with his son's murder. Two accused have been arrested. Efforts are also going on to arrest the other accused,."
