BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the interim government to address the people's hopes and expectations to foil the conspiracies being hatched by the patrons of the ousted autocratic regime.
"The patrons of the ousted government are not sitting idle, rather, they remain active both at home and abroad, within and outside the administration, trying to thwart the progress of the interim government," he said joining a discussion virtually from London on Saturday (November 16) afternoon.
Nationalist Textiles Engineers Association organised the discussion at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium at Ramna in the capital on the occasion of its Third National Council.
"I believe the patrons will not have the chance to widen their net of conspiracy if the interim government addresses the issues that matter to the people," he said.
Tarique Rahman said the interim government cannot be failed in any way, because this government is the outcome of the movement of the country's democracy-loving people. "We all will fail if the interim government fails," he said.
The country's democracy and development will not be sustainable if the people's political and economic empowerment is not ensured, said the BNP leader.
Pointing out that voting rights are the first political weapon for a citizen, he said that the ownership between the state and its citizens cannot be properly established if voting rights are denied in any way.
Referring to the reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government, he said that the countrymen are eagerly waiting to exercise their franchise in a transparent atmosphere to elect the public representatives.
Tarique said that the bond of trust between the people and the interim government will be strengthened if a credible and trustworthy atmosphere is created in the country.
