MUNSIGANJ, Nov 17: Shaheed Ziaur Rahman High School in the district has been deprived of development for the last 16 years due to its name.

The school is located in Rikabi area in Mirkadim Municipality in Sadar Upazila. This educational institution remained neglected during the rule of Awami League (AL).

Teachers, students and guardians complained, the school became victim of political revenge.

The school structure has been risky. And 70-80 per cent of the playground was grabbed by AL men in the name of raising Sheikh Rasel Mini Stadium.

Jasim Uddin, president of the School Managing Committee and of Mirkadim Poura BNP, said, they filed case and the court imposed restriction; and despite that during the construction of the mini stadium, the 70 to 80 per cent of the school playground was grabbed.

The development of the school was suspended after taking over power by AL in the 2008 election.

In 1994, the school was established. Firstly the pass rate in SSC exam was 92 per cent, 97.67 per cent in 2022, 80 per cent in 2023 and 89.04 per cent in 2024.

Teachers said, despite repeated letters to different department heads including director general of the Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, not a single penny was allocated to the school.

The academic building of the school was constructed at the money given by locals 28 years back.

The school building has been completely deplorable, and its road has been worse.

Most of the students of the school are poor. They pay nominal session fee and admission fee and are unable to give monthly tuition fee.

The school needs modern academic facilities including computer lab and Shaheed Minar, the teachers added.

Head Teacher of the school Md Jalal Uddin said, "Not a single penny was allocated to the school during the last 16 years. This was because of its name."
