The interim government has created 86,277 new jobs in projects undertaken by six ministries over the past 100 days, following its assumption of office in early August, said Youth, Sports, and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Sunday.
"The figure we are reporting today covers the efforts of six ministries. Of these, 2,468 jobs are in the tax sector, while the remaining 83,809 are in other training sectors," the adviser stated.
Asif also emphasised the interim government's plan to create an additional 500,000 jobs over the next two years.
He noted that the number of unemployed individuals with undergraduate degrees in Bangladesh is between 2.5 million and 2.6 million, adding that 500,000 of these jobs would be targeted for this group in the coming years. The Adviser made these remarks while briefing the media on the achievements of the past 100 days since the interim government assumed office.
The new jobs were created across several ministries, including the Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Labour and Employment, ICT Division, Bangladesh Public Service Commission, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs, as well as in the tax sector.
"We hope to exceed this number in the future. We are taking proactive measures to ensure that we can create even more job opportunities moving forward, especially through the Department of Youth Development," Asif added.
