The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for filing returns for individual taxpayers by one month.
NBR Public Relations Officer Syed Abdul Mumen confirmed the matter on Sunday.
He said that the deadline for filing returns without penalty for all taxpayers except companies has been extended till December 31, both online and offline. For the convenience of taxpayers, an order has been issued on Sunday extending the deadline for filing income tax returns by one month for all taxpayers except companies, both online e-returns and offline paper returns.
It is said that according to the Income Tax Act 2023, the last day for filing income tax returns for all categories of taxpayers except companies for the 2024-25 tax year is November 30. This year, the National Board of Revenue has made it mandatory for all government employees located in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur and Narayanganj City Corporations, officers/employees of all scheduled banks across the country, officers/employees of all mobile telecom service providers across the country, and officers/employees working in multinational companies mentioned in the order to file their income tax returns online.
Taxpayers of various professions have requested the National Board of Revenue to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns. So far, 375,000 taxpayers have filed their e-returns online.
Earlier, the deadline for filing returns for individual taxpayers was extended until January 31 in the 2023-24 tax year.
Usually, the deadline for filing returns is set until November 30. That day is observed as Tax Day. However, this time, the NBR plans to observe Tax Day on a different day.
