The interim government led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is not a caretaker government. Rather, it a "revolutionary government," Information Adviser Md Nahid Islam has said.

He said, "The interim government has received support from around the world which still continues. "The present interim government is not a caretaker government, rather it's a revolutionary government. So, holding election is not the only duty of this government."

Nahid came up with the remarks while holding a meeting with the Commonwealth Assistant Secretary-General Professor Luis Franceschi, at the Secretariat on Monday.

The adviser said the present interim government is trying to bring the country back to a democratic system from an autocratic and undemocratic system of governance. The interim government is ready to protect the interest of the country at any cost. Several commissions have already been formed for institutional reforms. Election will be held after the institutional reforms.

Nahid said the judicial process for the mass killing during the July-August uprising is ongoing and the government requires the assistance of the Commonwealth to ensure an impartial trial.
He also called for the support of Commonwealth nations in building a new Bangladesh.

Franceschi praised the current government's efforts towards democratic reforms and assured that the Commonwealth would support the ongoing reform initiatives including electoral process reforms in every possible way.

He also emphasized the Commonwealth's commitment to working with the interim government to build an inclusive, prosperous and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

Franceschi also mentioned that the Commonwealth is keen to work with the country in areas such as education, information technology, media, cyber security and artificial intelligence.
