A group of government job aspirants on Sunday announced to hold a rally for November 24 morning at Shahbagh in the capital to realise their demand to raise minimum age-limit to apply for civil services to 35 years.
They rejected the government decision raising the age bar at 32 years.
Announcing the rally at a press conference at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Dhaka University (DU) campus, the job aspirants demanded the government to issue a notification by November 30, setting the age limit for government job applications to 35 for men and 37 for women.
"Our movement has been ongoing since 2012. Recently, the government formed a commission on this matter. The commission recommended an age limit of 35 for men and 37 for women, but the government has set the limit at 32, which we have rejected, and we continue our movement. As a result, we came under police attacks," said Al Amin Raju.
MA Ali said, "Under the previous government, we were harassed in various ways. Yet, we did not give up because we are fighting for a logical cause. The previous government acted like a dictator to suppress our movement, and now this government seems to be doing the same. So, what is the difference between the two governments? We demand that our demands be accepted immediately, or we will announce a tougher programme."
