Injured student sent to Thailand for treatment

Mohammed Kajol Mia, astudent of English department of Jahangirnagar University who was shot in head during an anti-discrimination movement, was airlifted to Vejthani Hospital in Thailand for advanced medical treatment.

He left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:30 am on Monday in an air ambulance.

Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum was present at the airport to see him off.

Talking to reporters, the Adviser said, "The air ambulance alone cost Tk 64 lakh. Initially, we have allocated Tk 10 lakh for treatment. Should further funds be required, we will provide them as necessary."

The Adviser said that another injured individual, currently under care at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, is awaiting transfer abroad. "We expect to send him by tomorrow or the day after. So far, we have sent five individuals abroad for treatment, and arrangements are ongoing to send 20-25 more," she said.    —UNB
