Rajshahi University (RU) authorities suspended classes and examinations of Law and Marketing Departments for Tuesday following clashes between two groups centering inter-department football tournament.
At least 34 people, including students, teachers and journalist, were injured in the clashes.
According to the campus sources, the tournament started between the students of the two departments on Monday afternoon at the university stadium. At one stage of the game, Marketing students defeated Law departments.
Suddenly, both the groups locked into a brawl which later led to several clashes and chase and counter-chase.
The students of both the departments, equipped with sticks, took position face to face beside Rabindranath Tagore Academic Bhaban. The administration and the teachers tried to solve the matter, but they failed.
They chased each other and threw brick chips, leaving 34 injured. A Law Department teacher was injured and a journalist was also assaulted.
Hearing the news, police and army personnel went to the scene to clam the students.
