Friends, admirers, organisers bid adieu to Pintoo

The colleagues, well-wishers, organisers, and others bade adieu to the former captain of Swadhin Bangla Football Team and later National Football Team Zakaria Pintoo at his namaz-e-Janaza held on Tuesday on the premises of his favourite Mohammedan Sporting Club. 

Representatives of the adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal, general secretary, executive members, employees, board of directors of Mohammedan Sporting Club, officials as well as different sports organisers, Pintoo's friends and well-wishers attended the namaz-e-Janaza and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. 

He left behind one son, three daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. 

The Naogaon-born footballer represented both the Pakistan national football team and the East Pakistan football team. Pintoo who was born on the first of January in 1943 was the first person to wave the flag of Bangladesh on foreign soil. Swadhin Bangla Football Team played a total of sixteen matches around India with Pintoo as the captain. They intended to earn money to aid liberation fighters and the struggle. 

A guard of honour was given at this heroic freedom fighter's namaz-e-Janaza on the day. Pintoo, who died at the age of 81 on Monday, was admitted to a city hospital due to complications from heart disease. He was later buried at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard on Tuesday.
