The Ministry of Commerce has allowed 42 companies to import 188 million more eggs to increase supply in the market and control prices. The condition is to market these eggs by January 31, 2025.
This information was given in a notification by the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday. Earlier, on October 23, 12 companies were allowed to import 40 million eggs. And on October 7, permission was given to import 45 million eggs.
The notification by the Ministry of Commerce said that 42 companies have been allowed to import 188 million more eggs.
Although the government has allowed the import of eggs, it has imposed several conditions in this regard. These are- as per the guidelines of the World Organization for Animal Health, a certificate or declaration of zoning or compartmentalization must be submitted through the competent authority of the exporting country in favour of bird flu-free zoning or compartmentalization. For each consignment of imported eggs, a certificate of freedom from avian influenza or bird flu virus and harmful bacteria issued by the competent authority designated or authorized by the government of the exporting country must be submitted.
Payment of government-determined duties and taxes and other regulations must be followed. The concerned quarantine officer must be informed at least 15 days before each consignment of egg import.
A progress report must be submitted to the Ministry of Commerce after 7 days of receiving the import permission. The import permission will be valid until January 31.
