The ousted Awami League government had spent Tk1,261 crore during the celebration of Mujib Borsho, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the last six years.
In a statement, comprising the expenditures of the relevant ministries, divisions and other government entities, the Advisory Council meeting was informed about the matter on Wednesday.
The Advisory Council also decided to suspend related budget allocation for Mujib Borsho celebration starting from 2024-25 financial year, according to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser's Office.
The then government declared the year 2020-21 as the Mujib Year. The year was celebrated from March 17, 2020 to March 31, 2022 (extended by one year).
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on March 17, 1920, in Bengal Presidency, now in Tungipara village of the Gopalganj district of Bangladesh.
