Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud on Wednesday said efforts were underway to give the seven Dhaka University (DU) affiliated colleges an integrated institutional identity.
He said, "The seven colleges were affiliated to DU in an unplanned manner, and since then, these colleges have faced various issues and challenges. Therefore, after assuming my duties, I mentioned that the seven colleges should be given a separate institutional structure, and I was planning to form an expert committee to establish a unique identity for the colleges."
He made the remarks during his keynote address at founding anniversary ceremony of Dhaka College.
The Adviser said, "How can we give them a unique identity? For that, I had formed a committee. The committee has almost completed its report. Now, we are going to form an expert committee. This committee will work to create a unified institutional structure, looking into how more autonomy can be given to the colleges, how their facilities and infrastructure can be enhanced, and how a coordinated institutional identity can be developed. The unique identity name will be decided after discussions with other stakeholders."
He said, "Remember, no matter what name is chosen, the main focus is on improving the quality of education and reducing educational disparities. The name of the unique entity will be decided by all of you. A committee composed of the most capable and high-performing students will be formed, and you will be able to observe their work regularly. Sitting idly will not help because the interim government's time is limited. Therefore, you don't need to worry about when the committee will submit its report. We will begin closely monitoring the situation now and take steps gradually to ensure that the best possible and most respectful environment is created for you."
