Interim appeal in ICT law to ensure fair trial: Asif Nazrul

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Thursday said the provision of interim appeal was kept in the International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, to ensure fair trial and it will be used in very limited cases.

The law adviser said this while replying a question of a journalist after inspecting renovation works of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) building here. 

Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan accompanied the law adviser while engineers of the public works department and ICT prosecutors were present.

The council of advisers at its meeting on November 20, approved in principle the draft of 'International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024'.

According to law the adviser the government has amended the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973 as various quarters raised voice over different errors of the act while holding trials under the act during the regime of ousted fascist government.

"As we want to hold fair trial following due process, the government took the initiative to amend the law," Asif told media.—BSS
