Individuals injured during the July uprising will be given unique ID cards, which will grant them lifetime medical treatment at government hospitals on a priority basis, said Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, on Thursday.

Cardholders will also receive fast-track services, said the Health official.

For medical treatments unavailable at government hospitals, free treatment will be provided through private institutions on a contractual basis, with the government covering the costs later.

Dr Sayed shared this information during a press conference in front of the BSL Building in the capital, organised by the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation and the Health Ministry.

He explained that a multidisciplinary hospital was designated for treating the injured. Infrastructure was set up at the BSMMU Cabin Block and the Super Specialized Hospital's outpatient clinic to offer these services.

The hospitals will serve as one-stop centres with all necessary departments for the treatment of the injured. If needed, experts from other public and private institutions, as well as Bangladeshi specialists abroad, will be consulted, Dr Sayed added.

The treatment and rehabilitation plan also includes housing arrangements for the injured patients' families or attendants in Shahbagh. Additionally, under the supervision of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at BSMMU, physiotherapy services were arranged. If these services cannot be provided locally, robotic physiotherapy will be made available at other specialised hospitals.

For patients needing advanced treatment abroad, Dr Sayed said the relevant hospital's specialist committee will evaluate the necessity of sending them overseas. The Health Ministry will be informed, and decisions will be made based on the recommendations of a review committee formed by the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation.

The process for sending patients abroad is ongoing and will continue in the future, he noted.

Financial assistance for the injured, however, was increased from a maximum of 1 lakh to 3 lakh, depending on their classification.

Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, CEO of the July Smriti Foundation, and General Secretary Md Sarjis Alam also attended the press conference.

Sarjis Alam said the list of martyrs and injured from the uprising will be verified and published by December 31.

He said the process is ongoing and that data collection will be completed by November.

"It is easier to collect information about the families of the martyrs, but verifying information about the injured individuals is more challenging. We aim to complete data collection by November and publish the full list by December 31," he said.
