Two West Indian batters fell agonizingly in nervous nineties as the hosts posted 250 for five at the close of Day-1 in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound in Antigua on Saturday.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz opted to bowl first after winning the toss taking into account the green surface. The West Indies fielded four pacers in their playing XI, while Bangladesh included three.

Taskin Ahmed justified Miraz's decision early on by dismissing West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite for just four runs. Keacy Carty followed shortly after without troubling the scorers. The hosts endured a slow and cautious start and went into the lunch break at 50 for two after 23 overs.

Opener Mikyle Louis and Kavem Hodge attempted to stabilize the innings but Hodge was dismissed after scoring 25. Louis then forged a crucial 140-run partnership with Alick Athanaze to put the West Indies in a commanding position as they dominated the Bangladesh bowlers.

However, both Louis and Athanaze were dismissed in quick succession of 20 balls giving Bangladesh an opportunity to claw back into the game.

Louis, who registered his maiden Test half-century, fell just three runs short of his first Test century and got out scoring 97 off 218 balls. He had earlier been dropped by Miraz when batting on 90.

Athanaze too missed out on a century, who fell for 90 off 130 balls. This marked the second time in his last four innings that Athanaze was dismissed in the nineties.

Joshua Da Silva and Justin Greaves were unbeaten at stumps on 14 and 11 as bad light brought an early end to the day's play after 84 overs, six overs short of the scheduled close.

Taskin was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh taking two wickets. Taijul Islam and Miraz chipped in with one wicket each.
